Partner of Demarest’s Dispute Resolution area, Newton Coca Bastos Marzagão holds a PhD in Procedural Law from Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and a master’s degree from the same institution. His regular clients include companies in the banking, automotive, construction, rubber and pneumatics, pharmaceuticals, service industries and the food and retail sectors.
- Advising a client from the mining sector in an arbitration within the context of a corporate dispute valued at approximately BRL 2 billion
- Advising a client in the retail sector in an arbitration regarding the acquisition of control of a supermarket chain, totaling approximately BRL 1.5 billion
- Advising the State of Holland in a legal dispute linked to a contractor's non-compliance with infrastructure work in one of the ports in northeastern Brazil, valued at approximately BRL 500 million
- Advising an automobile client in a compensation claim worth BRL 500 million
- Advising a financial market client in a dispute involving its entry into the Brazilian market and its consequences for competition, in the amount of BRL 350 million
