Partner in Demarest’s Corporate and Mergers and Acquisitions practice areas, Maria da Paz holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from Universidade Lusíada, in Lisbon, Portugal, and a master’s degree (LL.M) in Banking, Corporate, and Finance Law from Fordham University School of Law (New York, USA). She is licensed to practice Law in Brazil and Portugal. She has worked at the New York and São Paulo offices of White & Case (2000-2003) and at the Lisbon and São Paulo offices of Cuatrecasas (2003-2018). She has extensive experience advising mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and commercial and corporate law matters, particularly in transactions related to Latin America and Europe. Among her main clients are major companies across numerous sectors, such as hospitality and infrastructure. Maria da Paz is a member of the Board of Directors and Chairperson of the Associates Committee of the Portuguese Chamber of São Paulo.
- Advised a major European group in the market of business transformation services and information technology in the acquisition of a Portuguese information technology and digital transformation company.
- Advised a European technology and legal service provision company in a competitive sale process.
- Advised an international investment fund in the acquisition of one of the world’s largest groups of natural slate production and distribution, for the amount of EUR 900 million.
- Advised one of the largest European sustainable investment funds in the formation of a joint venture with a European group for the implementation of a project for planting and maintaining eucalyptus farms and natural forests in Brazil.
