Demarest launches guide to the regulation of gambling, e-games and betting in Brazil
January 19th, 2023
The regulation of gambling in Brazil, under discussion in the National Congress and expected to occur in 2023, opens up the prospect of expansion for a market that is expected to generate at least BRL12 billion this year.
This amount represents an increase of 70% over the 2020 revenue in electronic games alone, according to surveys and analysis of data from the sector. The potential for growth is even greater when one considers the lack of specific rules for some gambling and betting modalities (such as sports or fixed odds) and illegal gaming (such as gambling, based on the element of luck, which is the case for bingo, casinos, Brazilian betting game “jogo do bicho”, among others). Estimates are that illegal gambling generates at least BRL 27 billion a year.
With a multidisciplinary team of professionals, Demarest has prepared a guide with information on the various types of gambling and betting – permitted or prohibited by a sparse number of laws that address different topics – and the different bills in progress, which seek to create rules and facilitate the exploitation of some types of gambling and betting in Brazil.
