Demarest announces new partner in Brasília to litigate before the superior courts

February 7th, 2022

The new hiring reinforces the firm’s strategic planning

Demarest, one of the most respected law firms in Brazil and Latin America, has hired Angela Cignachi Baeta Neves to bolster its team. The new partner will be based in Brasilia, focused especially on superior court matters.

Holding a master’s degree (LLM) in Social Roles of Law from Centro Universitário Alves Faria (FADISP/UNIALFA), Angela also holds a post-graduate degree in Electoral Law from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (PUC-MG) and a bachelor’s degree in Law from Centro Universitário de Brasília (UniCEUB).

With 19 years of experience in Brasilia – the federal capital of Brazil and seat of government for the Federal District -, Angela will concentrate her practice in the Tax and Litigation areas, particularly in pending cases before the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) and Federal Supreme Court (STF). The new partner will also head the firm’s Brasilia office.

“Angela’s arrival, bringing with her expertise in superior court matters, reinforces our strategic planning, of which  technical excellence is a criterion in our provision of legal services. It also strengthens our capabilities in Brasilia, which is essential to meeting the needs of our clients”, says Paulo Coelho da Rocha, Managing Partner of the firm.

Angela has been elected twice as the lawyer with the most votes for the position of substitute minister in the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). Last year, for the first time in its history, the list of nominations were comprised solely of women.

She has also served as vice-president of IBRADE (Brazilian Institute of Electoral Law) since 2017 and is part of the Special Commission of Electoral Law in the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB).

“Joining a top-notch firm such as Demarest is a challenge that brings with it opportunities to work on challenging cases, particularly in an area that is constantly changing”, says Angela. “In addition to this, being part of an environment committed to and in favor of expanding female leadership in the legal sector was another deciding factor for me to join the team in Brasília.”
