Demarest announces new Dispute Resolution partner

November 12th, 2024

With more than 20 years of experience in high-complexity commercial arbitrations and civil litigations, Tatiana Ferri has joined the firm’s team

Tatiana Ferri is the newest partner hired by Demarest Advogados, one of the largest and most respected full-service law firms in Brazil and Latin America. She will bolster Demarest’s Dispute Resolution practice area (arbitration and civil litigation).

The new partner brings more than 20 years of experience in the legal market to the firm and concentrates her practice on the infrastructure and construction sector at a time when Brazil is not only discussing investments, but the execution of complex projects. As these projects can lead to divergences and disputes in numerous phases, this can create opportunities within the scope of arbitration.

Tatiana Ferri holds a master’s degree in Law from Queen Mary University of London, England, a postgraduate degree in Brazilian Administrative Law from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV-SP), a postgraduate degree in Brazilian Civil Procedural Law from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP), and a bachelor’s degree in Law from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie.

She is an internationally experienced lawyer, having spent ten years at White & Case in London, where she worked on some of the largest international arbitrations, involving several jurisdictions and professionals. Tatiana Ferri is also certified to practice law as a solicitor in England.

With the increasing number of foreign investors in Brazil, commercial disputes tend to become more relevant and frequent. The number of arbitrations has climbed significantly, and Brazil has been progressively adapting and incorporating international practices”, says the newly hired expert, who envisages great potential for arbitration to further develop in Brazil, especially within the infrastructure and construction sector.

Tatiana has advised some of the largest infrastructure companies in Brazil in the segments of oil and gas, energy, mining, insurance, and rail, among others. This experience has provided her with extensive technical knowledge, combining both a business and legal vision.

After more than ten years abroad, Demarest is the best workplace to resume my career in Brazil, within the scope of complex cases and cross-border disputes. Now, the main goal will be to develop Demarest’s Dispute Resolution practice area even further in infrastructure matters, and expand the firm’s already prominent international arbitration practice”, says the new partner.

For Paulo Coelho da Rocha, Demarest’s managing partner, Tatiana’s hiring is an important boost for the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice area, which handles complex litigation cases and settling disputes.

Tatiana’s specialized technical knowledge and international experience are aligned with Demarest’s strategic plan to offer increasingly efficient solutions to our clients in numerous segments and areas of the economy”, Paulo says. “As for the infrastructure sector, in which disputes tend to be time-consuming and costly, arbitration is a way to expedite the solution of problems and ensure legal certainty for companies”, he added.

Newton Marzagão, partner in Demarest’s Dispute Resolution practice area, highlights that “Tatiana’s arrival is aligned with our project of ongoing investment and expansion envisaged for our arbitration practice, further strengthening the civil litigation team as highly complex demands increase”.

With Tatiana Ferri’s hiring, Demarest now has 87 partners, of which 17 work in the Dispute Resolution practice area, in a wide range of industries.
